Alex Bentley departs

Alex Bentley has left the club.

Alex played for Dagenham & Redbridge and Cray Wanderers prior to signing for the Urchins in readiness for the Conference North campaign of 2012/13, making his debut in the 2-1 away defeat at Salisbury City. Alex then moved to Bromley but was only there for their 2013/14 pre-season before returning to Bridge Avenue where he has been a key member of the Urchins’ defence ever since. In total Alex has turned out on 288 occasions for the club over a 7 year period and was voted Players’ player of the season in 2012/13 and Supporters’ player of the season in both 2012/13 and 2018/19. A fantastic servant for the club, he will be sorely missed.

We’d like to thank Alex for his time at the club and wish him the very best of luck for the future.

He has also represented Billericay Town, Hendon and Welling United.

Matt, who also signs from Enfield Town, is an experieced midfielder who made 50 appearances for the Towners last season, scoring 6 goals. He was voted Manager’s player and Players’ player of the season for 2018/19. Formerly with Billericay Town, Bishop’s Stortford, Braintree Town, Ebbsfleet United and Margate, Matt had been at Chelmsford City for most of the 2017/18 campaign before making the switch to Enfield in March 2017.

Welcome to the club Joe and Matt.

Callum Chafer and Sean Marks depart

Callum Chafer and Sean Marks have left the club.

Callum was originally part of the Hornchurch youth setup making his debut for Hornchurch in a League Cup tie at East Thurrock United in October 2014. He signed for Romford and then on to Bowers & Pitsea where he played a huge part in Bowers’ successful 2017/18 campaign as the club reached the play-offs only to lose out to Canvey Island in the semi finals. Callum signed for Hornchurch at the start of the 2018/19 season and had a superb campaign, playing every minute of every game and making a number of crucial saves throughout; saves that were key in ensuring the Urchins retained their Bostik Premier status.

Sean signed from Vanarama National side Maidenhead United in May 2018, making over 30 appearances and scoring 6 goals for the Magpies in the 2017/18 season. Previously Sean had played for Braintree Town where he made over 300 appearances for the Iron in an eight year spell, playing a leading role in Braintree’s remarkable rise to the highest echelon of non league football.  He scored on his debut for Hornchurch in a 3-0 home win vs Leatherhead and went on to score 18 goals in 47 appearances for the Urchins as Hornchurch finished 15th in their return to the Bostik Premier League.

We’d like to thank Callum and Sean for their time at the club and wish them the very best of luck for the future.

George Purcell and Kenzer Lee depart

George Purcell and Kenzer Lee have left the club.

George signed from Margate in July 2013 and made his debut on 10th August 2013 in the season opener against Lewes. He finished top scorer at the end of that season and continued his prolific run in front of goal scoring an incredible 149 goals in 279 appearances for the club. He is the club’s record goalscorer and was voted both the Players’ player of the season and Supporters’ player of the season in 2015/16.

Kenzer signed for Hornchurch at the start of the 2016/17 season and made his debut in a 0-0 draw against Romford on 13th August 2016. A fantastic leader and defender he has played a huge part in the Urchins’ success over the last 3 seasons, being part of a defence that has repeatedly kept clean sheets over that time. Kenzer was voted Players’ player of the season for 2016/17.

We’d like to thank George and Kenzer for their time at the club and wish them the very best of luck for the future.
